How to Fill the Indonesia Arrival Card: Step by Step
A field-by-field walkthrough of the All Indonesia Arrival Card form: identity, travel, health and customs blocks, review, and the QR code you receive.
Knowing what the arrival card is takes two minutes. Actually completing it without a typo takes a little more care. This walkthrough follows the form in the order the official portal presents it — identity, travel, health, customs, review, QR code — and flags exactly where travelers slip. The declaration itself has no cost, needs no account, and takes around ten minutes with your documents on the table.
- Where: the official government portal, no registration, no fee.
- When: within the 3 days before your arrival date in Indonesia.
- Have ready: passport, flight number, first accommodation address, email.
- Hardest field: the name — it must match your passport's machine-readable zone.
- Output: one QR code per traveler. Download it, do not rely on email.
Before you open the form: gather five things
Half of all form errors happen because someone is typing from memory. Put these in front of you first and the rest is mechanical.
- Your passport, open at the photo page. Not a photo of it, not a number saved in your notes app.
- Your flight number, exactly as on the boarding pass or e-ticket — carrier code plus digits, such as GA 715 or SQ 938.
- The address of your first accommodation in Indonesia, including city and postcode if you have it.
- An email address you can open on your phone. This is where the confirmation lands.
- Your arrival date in local Indonesian time, which for long-haul travelers is often a day later than you think.
If you are unsure whether you have everything, our checklist of what you need before starting the declaration covers each item in detail.
Quick summary: collect passport, flight number, address, email and arrival date before you begin typing.
Step 1 — Open the official portal
Go to the government site run by the Directorate General of Immigration: allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id (linked at the end of this guide). There is no login, no username and no password to create. You start the declaration directly.
The portal will ask you to select the entry type and confirm you are declaring for a single traveler. If you are travelling as a family, you complete the flow once per person — including babies. Each submission produces its own QR code.
Check the timing before you invest ten minutes: if your arrival date is more than three days away, the system will not accept it. The rules and edge cases are in our guide to when to submit the declaration.
Quick summary: the portal has no cost and account-no-cost, but rejects submissions made more than three days before arrival.
Step 2 — The identity and passport block
This is the block that decides whether your QR code matches your documents at the counter. Work slowly.
| Field | What to enter | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | Exactly as in the passport machine-readable zone | Using a shortened or everyday version of the name |
| Passport number | Characters only, no spaces | Confusing 0 with O, or 1 with I |
| Nationality | As issued on the passport | Selecting country of residence instead |
| Date of birth | Follow the on-screen format | Entering DD/MM in a MM/DD field |
| Passport expiry | As printed | Copying the issue date by accident |
| Sex | As shown on the passport | Leaving the default selected |
The name field deserves its own paragraph. The two lines at the bottom of your passport photo page — the machine-readable zone — are the authoritative version of your name. Officers scan those lines. If your declaration says something different, the systems disagree.
Dual-national travelers should declare with the passport they will physically present in Indonesia, and use that passport consistently across the whole form.
Quick summary: copy the identity block character by character from the passport, never from memory.
Step 3 — The travel and accommodation block
Here the form switches from your documents to your itinerary. Two fields cause almost all the trouble.
Arrival date. This is the date you land in Indonesia, in Indonesian local time — not the date you leave home. An evening departure from Europe usually lands two calendar days later. Read it off the flight confirmation rather than calculating it.
Flight number. Enter the number of the flight that actually brings you into Indonesia, which on a connecting itinerary is the last leg, not the first. A passenger flying via Doha or Singapore declares the Doha–Denpasar or Singapore–Jakarta segment.
You will also select your point of entry — Ngurah Rai, Soekarno-Hatta, Juanda and so on — and give your address in Indonesia. If you are island-hopping, use the first place you will sleep. The form is recording where you are heading on arrival, not your full route.
Enter the physical residential address where you will stay, with city and province. For a liveaboard or a cruise, use the port or the operator's registered address. An empty or vague accommodation field is one of the most common reasons a declaration gets queried.
Quick summary: declare the final inbound flight, the local arrival date, and your first address in Indonesia.
Step 4 — The health declaration
The health block is short. It typically asks about recent symptoms, countries visited in the previous days, and whether you are carrying anything of medical or biological interest.
Answer honestly and literally. This is a declaration to a government authority, and it is the one block where a convenient guess carries real consequences. If you have a routine condition and no symptoms, that is simply a "no" to a symptom question.
Travelers bringing prescription medication should keep the original packaging and, ideally, a prescription or doctor's letter. Some substances that are freely available at home are controlled in Indonesia, and the health and customs blocks work together on this point.
Quick summary: answer the health questions literally and honestly; carry documentation for any prescription medication.
Step 5 — The customs declaration
This block absorbed the old paper e-CD. It asks what you are bringing into the country, and it applies to every traveler, including the ones carrying nothing unusual.
You will be asked to declare, among other things:
- Currency above the reporting threshold, counting all cash carried by you personally.
- Goods exceeding the personal allowance, including gifts and items bought duty-free.
- Commercial goods or samples, even if you are not selling them yourself.
- Restricted categories: certain foods, plants, animal products, medicines, weapons and media.
Two habits help. First, declare when in doubt — declaring something that turns out to be exempt costs you nothing, while not declaring something dutiable does. Second, count the currency you actually have, including what is in a partner's bag if it is legally yours. Our customs declaration guide breaks down the thresholds and categories field by field.
Quick summary: the customs block applies to everyone, and declaring in good faith is always cheaper than omitting.
Step 6 — Review before you submit
The portal shows a summary screen before you commit. Do not skim it. Read it against the passport still open in front of you, in this order:
- Name, character by character, against the machine-readable zone.
- Passport number, character by character.
- Arrival date and flight number, against the booking confirmation.
- Point of entry.
- Email address — a typo here means the confirmation never arrives.
Once submitted, the declaration is bound to that data. Corrections are sometimes possible, but the usual practical route is a fresh submission. The most frequent errors, and how to fix each one, are catalogued in our guide to common arrival card mistakes.
Quick summary: review five fields against your documents; correcting before submission is far easier than after.
Step 7 — Receive and store the QR code
After submission the system issues a digital document with a QR code, usually shown on screen and sent by email. The on-screen version is the reliable one — save it immediately.
Download the PDF, screenshot the QR code into your phone gallery, and print a copy if you can. Airport wifi and roaming data both fail regularly, and a QR code you cannot open is a QR code you do not have. Our article on saving and presenting the QR code explains what to do when the email never arrives.
You will typically show it twice: at check-in or boarding, and at the arrival gates in Indonesia.
The declaration has no cost on the government portal and most people complete it in ten minutes. If you would rather have your entries checked against your passport before submission, our optional assisted service reviews the details and helps you store the QR code. It is a paid convenience, never a requirement.
One declaration per traveler — and it is not a visa
Two structural points worth restating as you finish. Every traveler needs their own declaration and their own QR code, including infants travelling on a parent's lap; the family logistics are covered in our guide to declarations for children and families.
And the QR code is not permission to enter. If your nationality requires a visa or e-VOA, that is an entirely separate process, compared side by side in arrival card versus visa.
Quick summary: one QR code per person, and the QR code never substitutes for a visa.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the Indonesia Arrival Card form take to complete? About ten minutes per traveler if your passport, flight number and accommodation address are in front of you. Searching for details mid-form is what stretches it.
Do I need to create an account on the official portal? No. The government portal lets you complete and submit the declaration without registering, and without paying anything.
Which name do I enter if my passport shows two surnames? Enter both, in the same order and without abbreviating, exactly as they appear in the machine-readable zone at the bottom of the passport photo page.
Which flight number should I enter if I have a connection? The flight that actually lands in Indonesia — the final leg of your itinerary, not the departure from your home city.
What do I put as my address if I am moving between islands? The address of the first accommodation where you will stay after arriving. The form records your point of arrival, not your whole route.
What happens if I make a mistake and have already submitted? Corrections are possible in some cases, but the practical route is usually to complete a fresh declaration with the correct data before you travel.
Do I have to fill in the customs block if I have nothing to declare? Yes. The customs section is part of the same declaration for every traveler; you simply answer no to the categories that do not apply to you.
Can I complete the form on my phone? Yes. The portal works on mobile browsers, though a larger screen makes reviewing the summary page before submission considerably easier.
Does each member of my family need a separate form? Yes. Every traveler with a passport, including babies, needs an individual declaration and their own QR code.
Is there any charge for filling in the arrival card? No. The declaration has no cost on the official government portal. Any fee you encounter is for an optional third-party assistance service, not for the declaration itself.
